Challenge to making reflections and similar skills

On practicing on making progress, I wrote down that one of the challenge to make a story for a plot of a game to make it work out. I wrote down what I needed to improve on was written down on this post https://3dsmax712057436.wordpress.com/2020/04/21/game-identity-and-action-plan/ which explains that I would need to make the characters and the location making sense as to why it should be important to the player and how it could be good. I also said that I would need to improve in making a design for game to have it where it looks good and explain as to why I put it there.

I made the improvement for starters on the plot where I wrote a story on a plot from looking a some images on the internet and put some characters in it and put it in where I would put it to where it could be like a level in the game. I wrote a story where I have to censer the names and some of the words as although the names to the characters and things are fiction, I still don’t want to be in trouble.

The story is in Starfield library which is in South Korea (sorry Japan), The characters are in this library as they have a device that they don’t know how it works and they need to find out as two of their friends are in a different place and the three need them back. This location is good as it got a lot of books that could have the three find a way to make the deceive work.

This is the plot that takes place in it.

The next part is to have a character that is one of the bad guys (or in this case girl) with a weapon to attack. She is order to kill them because they got something that will slow down (or stop) the villain plan from working. This is where the weapon is would be used for the bad guy would be drawn to show what it looks like.

This is where I have it where it would cut to the game play as you are to escape from the bad guy with the time limit being the bad guy walking like she the terminator.

This will be the scene when the characters run and what the scene when playing the level would look like. This would be done with the scene from the art I did to make it where it’s kind of like Call of Duty modem warfare of the destruction of the building and the books and chairs being knock over and the glass being broken.

Here would be also outside as the level proceed on the chase where the player able characters would have to run down the streets while the bad guy chase after them. The gameplay would be in where camera is showing the characters fronts with the bad guy behind chasing them. This is like the Boulders chase on Crash Bandicoot game on where the camera is facing and obstacle being in the way and you lose if your slow and let the bad guy get the characters.

This is how the level ends where the characters get away and escape the bad guy and ends where they manage to escape and take a rest in the public bathhouse.

What I did well on this was that I manage to make a story and how it would play out in it of making a level and making it to make sense on how I see the images from the internet. This helped me create a plot into the level as to why it’s important and to have the player to play the level and what makes the level interesting from the rest of the levels that have something a little different.

What I could have improve on was that I could had more ideas as to what you could do on the levels on the gameplay as to what you need to do in order to proceed in the level. What could be helpful would be able to have the ideas as things like puzzle solving or reacting ahead on running.

The resources that can help me in having the ideas in making the levels is going on YouTube and looking into some levels that made it like the Call of Duty modem warfare 2019 in the house break in or the level design in super smash Bros.

Analysis of similar skills

One of the first games that can be used on the first game is on super Mario Galaxy.

1. The graphic are interesting as you can see some of the graphics on the game is sort of standing out, just that it doesn’t full look as to what you would see. Some of the graphics stand out like the flowers and space grass.

2. The plants in the background tells the player that they’ll be going there after the player finish this level. This gives an indication as to what’s to come.

3. This is where the player can know how much got interims in coins and star bits. Note that the image is in cartoon 2D drawing in a 3D style and the numbers are in a cartoon number font.

4. Mario, the character the player plays has the style as in he’s really to go as he has his hands in a fist and is looking around as this place is all new to him and he’s never been here before. This gives a personality into the character as to what he is doing and how it relates to the player.

5. The life bar has three lives where it means the player has to be careful as it means that the player doesn’t feel that it’s alright to make a few health lost like on super Mario 64 and sunshine and this with caution and take out the enemies that can lead to harm and keep the player on their toes.

6. The lives tells the player how many lives they got before they get a game over. Like the coins and star bits, the image is in cartoon 2D drawing in a 3D style and the numbers are in a cartoon number font.

7. This is the star count which tells the player how much power stars they got. Like the coins, star bits and lives, the power sign was in cartoon 2D drawing in a 3D style and the numbers are in a cartoon number font.

Here’s game that had a squeal called Super Mario galaxy 2.

1. Just like the first game, the lives for the image is in cartoon 2D drawing in a 3D style and the numbers are in a cartoon number font.

2. There are some new animation for Mario as this time he can sometimes ride on Yoshi who’s a green dinosaur.

3. Here’s the star count which is the same as the last game where what’s change is that there is now underneath the tally power stars is Comet Medal which tells the player if they got a Comet Medal or not. It too is in a cartoon 2D drawing but unlike the others it’s doesn’t have much 3D on it which makes it different and tells that there are some change. It’s to also help the player as it makes clear what the player is looking for compare to the coins, star bits and power stars.

4. Like the last game, there are plants in the background tells the player that they’ll be going there after the player finish this level. This gives an indication as to what’s to come.

5. There is very little change to the life meter from the last game as it remains the same with no change in design or in size or sound effect.

6. Nothing change for the coins and star bits where it has the same art and theme to it.

7. What’s new is the pointer in where if you get on Yoshi, then you get a red circle that if you have it highlight certain enemies and objects, Yoshi will go and eat it. This to some extend is like the end of Yoshi long tong on what it wants to eat (under Mario’s (the player) orders).

8. This was where the theme of enemies are new and added on and there are some new stuff on the site to make it more interesting and explorable. There are however some texture that stayed the same like the space grass floor that doesn’t stick out.

And here’s the game from Super Mario Odyssey.

1. There are many different, the coins are now in full 2D image and in white, not colour. The star bits are now replace with purple coins types like bots, hats and snow flake, etc. The purples coins types are also in 2D image and the numbers to the two are in normal numbers, not in cartoon style.

2. The health bar is change where the design is change from a tank gage design to a health bar circle design with a heart in the middle of it with a number of lives left which is the same, three hits and you’re dead. What’s interesting is that there is no lives to the game, instead if you die then you will lose some coins.

3. What’s new is that there is now a compass to help the player in being able to know where they are going and which way is North when looking at the map.

4. The texture have made big change as the floor to most grass are now how you would see in real life and stand out as well as making the locations look well done on making it look like it’s a place that looks real. This is big step from what Super Mario Galaxy had with it’s cartoon sort of theme.

5. The character Mario can now be put into whatever clothing the player can choose from to how he’ll be themed. This can make the player has the character wear the clothes they want and have an imagination as to what they can do in the game.

6. Many enemies and some ordinary living creatures can now be possessed and controlled by the player. This is new as it gives a bit of interested as to what the enemy does and a bit about the enemy personality.

7. What replace the power stars is some moon medals which does have a number to tell you how much you got, but not the digits numbers on the game play (when not near the odyssey ship or on the pause/map menu).

8. There are some changes where you can see some of things that you will be going to, but it’s not as much as the case in Super Mario Galaxy of going to world to world. This makes things interesting’s as it could means that players aren’t fully into going from place to place in just one level like in the Galaxy series and keeping it to one big world to explore is the way.

How these could be useful in my own practices is that it can help me explain and make ideas in how the worlds can look like and what can and can’t work. It also shows me that what can be change to make it look better like the life bar and the coins as well as the theme like if it should be cartoony or adventurous and how the style would work out on it. It can show me how the game design on how to show what the player needs to see while not making it overcluttered like an RPG when it’s not meant to be an RPG (Role-Playing Game).
